For those that read my blog or know me, the idea of me suggesting that you become unfocused seems just wrong, doesn’t it? I’ve been called Jiminy Cricket at times for my ability to figuratively sit on a CEO’s shoulder to keep them from chasing rabbits.
But sometimes we focus in a way that keeps us from seeing new and different ways to grow and innovate. We don’t see the things that could help us get more of what we want from the business we love so much.
Here is what that looks like: You’re in a dark room and your flashlight (your thinking) is focused on just one corner. New opportunities and trends come into the room yet never move across the beam of light, so you never see them.
This week, pull together a small group of big thinkers. Then move your flashlight around the room by asking yourself and your team these questions. Maybe send the questions out ahead of time:
- What new trends or technologies might help us serve our customers better?
- How could we help our customers solve more important problems?
- Who could we partner with or what new channels could we use to help us reach a lot more customers?
- Who could we partner with in order to offer more services to our current customers?
Give your team permission to think big. Big, messy and incomplete ideas can be the seeds that create transformational growth and the innovation that you desire.
Do you have a Big Strategy?
