The more successful companies I work with know that JOB ONE is serving their customers better and more meaningfully than anyone or anything else.
What does that look like?
- They don’t look like their competitors.
- They rarely respond to RFPs (i.e., price is seldom a tie-breaker).
- Their margins are above industry average.
- Growth is steady and consistent.
The key is a relentless focus on the customer: knowing them deeply; finding out what pain they tolerate when getting their job done; understanding what gain would surprise them; going from “How are we doing?” to “How might we make your job or life easier?”
All this is easier said than done and it’s hard to know where to begin.
